THEATRE AND THE ARTS
Rutland's Paramount Theatre began its life as a playhouse way back in 1914, but fell into a state of disrepair shortly after World War II. Efforts to restore the theatre began in 1980, when a group of local residents formed the Center Street Alley Association. With the announcement of a $1.35 million federal grant by Senator James Jeffords, architectural and fund-raising efforts began in earnest in 1997. In addition, more than $2 million was donated by members of the Killington and Rutland communities, and the theater swung open its doors in March 2000 to a sold-out house and the music of Arlo Guthrie. It is now open year-round and, to date, has attracted the likes of bluegrass favorites Alison Krauss and Jerry Douglas, plays by Neil Simon, family favorites like Pinocchio and Peter Pan and just about everything in between. TOURS
If you find yourself feeling the need for a less participatory activity while visiting Killington, take a break and check out the natural beauty that surrounds us, stunning at anytime of year. Vermont displays a quiet beauty in the winter, from covered bridges heavy with fresh snowfalls to hillside farms and quaint towns. Stop along the way at a brewery for a craft-brewed sample.
MORE
The adventures just don't end! There is more to explore outdoors with cross country skiing, ice skating or taking a horse-drawn sleigh ride, as well as indoors with indoor rock climbing and ice skating.
